Default Tips for improving local (country specific) search results

Ok, so "rubber shoes" (let's say) is a term impossible to dominate. I am talking about myself.

I search for "rubber shoes" from uk and I see all ".com" results that were intended for US audiences. I see a potential here, so I go ahead and book "rubber-shoes.co.uk". I want to grab the tiny fraction of searches that happens for "rubber shoes" in UK.

What are the tips to improve local rankings? I believe the following two would help me:

    1) Having a country specific domain (like my .co.uk).
    2) Hosting on an IP that is within the country.

What are the other things that I can do?

Delve deep my man. Write a shed load of articles targetting buying keywords with UK also in the post titles. And look at keyword tools for searches relating to cities in the UK.

I haven't done this much but my partner in crime targets things like "where to buy (keyword) in London" and such like. She then just points them to Amazon or some other affiliate site, sometimes even US sites. She is nailing it this month for UK traffic. So much so that the whole of next month is going to be just hundreds of blog posts on a set of sites for a niche.

This is not actually to improve local rankings but to win for a shed load of UK performed searches. Worth considering.

To rank top on local SERPS the main thing you will have to consider is the have the domain as co.uk as the OP said and at the same time to generate back links from local websites, i.e is backlinks from co.uk would be fine.

I say host your website at a UK server. It makes tons of difference in local searches where the website is hosted believe me.

Things That Can Help with Local Search:

Country specific DOMAIN (a big big big one these days)
Including location in Title, page name, and sprinkled in the post body
Hosting site on country specific server (though not necessary)

I have a sneaky suspicion that getting backlinks from other sites which google considers "local" to the location you are targeting will make a difference too -- but this is my speculation and I can't prove it.

    Default internet marketing

    hi
The Internet has brought media to a global audience. The interactive nature of Internet marketing in terms of providing instant responses and eliciting responses are the unique qualities of the medium. Internet marketing is sometimes considered to be broad in scope because it not only refers to marketing on the Internet, but also includes marketing done via e-mail and wireless media.
