Default How To Wisely Choose Adsense Keywords

    Dear all,

When I am doing my keyword research I find a lot of keywords that I feel might have good potential because they have good volume, not so much competition and they've got decent CPC. But still I wonder if I should dedicate a whole site to them.

    Let me explain:

Let's say I'm looking at "blood pressure monitors". I got the inspiration for this by browsing Amazon.

The (main) keyword "blood pressure monitors" itself is too competative. But there are so many more specific (sub) keywords such as:

    "discount blood pressure monitors"
    "ambulatory blood pressure monitors"
    "high blood pressure monitors"

are not competative at all and would be easy to rank for.

Knowing Court's style, he would probably recommend to buy a domain dedicated to the main keyword (bloodpressuremonitors.com) and put posts on it dedicated to the sub keywords.

Oftentimes, the domain for your main keyword will already be taken. And indeed, in this case, it is!

So I'm asking myself if I should maybe get a domain such as:

    discountbloodpressuremonitors.com
    amulatorybloodpressuremonitors.com
    highbloodpressuremonitors.com

and then start dedicating posts to related sub keywords with low competition.

Before I start registering domains like these en masse, I would really like to hear what all of you have to say about this.

Especially you, Ben. What kind of keywords do you pick when buying domain names for Adsense sites?

If you are making an authority site, you want as short a tail as possible. But there are different types of authority sites. If I was making say a general health authority sites, "healthinfosource.com" would be something general -- it has "health in it". you would expect a lot of different health articles.

If I was making an authority niche site about say "blood pressure monitors", I would not register a domain name like "discount blood pressure monitors." For niche-specific authority sites, I try to get as short a tail as possible in that niche. I would aim for "blood pressure monitors". And Court's method would be fine here --you have the shorter tail domain name and you target all the long tails with posts. Domain is key here. For example, I shelled out 2kUSD on just a domain name a few days ago, because it was the perfect short tail keyword for one of my niche authority sites I'm creating. Since I have the exact short tail keyword, I will build authority for that term every single time I get a backlink to my site -- longtail anchor text backlinks or short tail backlink anchor text.

If you are looking to make a sniper site about a specific keyword, you need to focus the entire site about that same keyword, so you would pick on of those long tails as the domain. The posts can be related to that single keyword. You can of course put posts to other longtails as well, but sniper sites need to really focus on a single keyword or a set of similar keywords. If you want to focus on different long tails, think about creating an authority sites.

Maybe he was not going to give away the keywords he was going to use? And maybe you should not always look at the pr of the site - there are a lot of low pr sites outranking higher pr websites in many niches. Google "make money online" for example! It's more about the backlinks than it is about the pr.

get blood-pressure-monitors.com, bloodpressure-monitors.com or blood-pressuremonitors.com. It's not rocket science (btw check out bloodpressure-monitors.com/ - you are not necessarily the only guy targeting this )

If you think it is a good niche to rank for a whole lot of long tails with the same site then go with the main keyword domain. If you think that only cheap blood pressure monitors is worth targeting get that. You can get cheapbloodpressuremonitors.com to rank well for "blood pressure monitors" if you do your backlinks correctly. It is not that important if you have something extra there IMO.

I just used these keywords because I had to use something to get my point across.

I have 7 Adsense sites now and I think I will create 3 more so I'll have 10.

I'm going to make them snipers and I will dedicate them to very long tail keywords.

I will not put up Adsense on them right away. First they will have to age a bit and get some traffic.

If they end up being small successes (ranking quickly and doing a buck or two per day), then I will be happy with them. (and I will be reproducing said results )

    Ben,

With regard to cpc, on long tails, if the short tail has a $10 click, and the long tail you are looking at has .05, if you write the post and focus the post on the short tail, will you trigger the right ads for the overall price of the keyword?

    exmaple

    mortgage is $20

how to get a mortgage with no money is .05

with the adwords tool, no one is paying the .05 to show an ad in search, but with the content network, will you get the "forclosure" term payout?

This is a good way to look at long tail keywords.
