Buying Preowned Domains
When buying a pre owned domain what are some of the things we have to look out for and be careful of?
-
1. That it's indexed by Google (preferably >1 page)
2. That it hasn't been used for spam or porn - only way I know to check is using way back machine at http://www.archive.org/index.php
3. That it's >1 year old (the older the better of course!)
Best place to find aged domains is at http://www.freshdrop.net/ as you can search on the above which you can't do if you go straight to Godaddy

Excellent tip Janeta -- I agree completely. I can't say I've done extensive buying of preowned. I have a couple and my impression is they get traffic much quicker and rank faster if you buy em right.
I'm going to be creating 100 sniper blogs all off preowned blogs in a few weeks to a month, I hope. I'll compare them to my 100 sniper blogs that were created from new domains. I'll be able to tell you guys how effective -- or not -- preowns are at that point.

I've use pre owned domains a lot and find they do get traffic easily and don't seem to suffer from the 'new domain boost then drop' syndrome. They rank faster and usually stay there. I always look for a pre owned domain first - for an extra $5 or $10 it's definitely worth it.
The GoDaddy coupon codes below are supposed to be permanent. I've been using them successfully for a few months now.
To get a .com domain for 30% discount (works when you renew them, too), use code:
MTECH330
To get 10% off any order, use promo code:
MTECH1
For 20% off when you spend $50 or more:
MTECH2

1. Get domains that are already indexed by Google and/or that has links in Yahoo Site Explorer. Ideally both but I will go for more Yahoo links over Google indexing of the parking page and few, if any, incoming links.
2. It can be hard to tell if a pre-owned is on a spamming blacklist or that has been deindexed by Google for BANS, YACG or other misdeed in it's prior life. These domains will usually have a lot of Yahoo links but are quite difficult to get reindexed by Google. Clean new content, new quality links and time will fix this but be prepared to wait. I've generally been able to get old deindexed domains reindexed within 4-6 months without having to submit to Webmaster Tools.
3. Former porn sites are often OK as long as they haven't been deindexed for doing something stupid. Use care with putting certain affiliates on them, especially EPN. And you'll need to get new non-porn links for them so they're more work on your part.
4. Be wary of buying expired domains that have a live site on them already. Often the previous owner will give you trouble about this so if you don't need the extra stress, buy one that's not currently in use.
5. The older the better as long as the domain has a good history and aged links. Buying a 1999 domain that's never been developed and has no links won't help you any more than buying a brand new domain. But, buying a 1999 domain with pre-existing links that have been around since then can be pure gold.

Frank said about all there is to say about the topic (thanks for stopping in by the way).
You may want to look at outright buying already existing website.
Now, I know there are places like Flippa and freshdrop where you can buy previously owned domains/sites, but one methods I'm thinking of testing out is to just outright offers someone with an underdeveloped websites some money.
Now, obviously, you can't pick up these websites for 5-10 bucks that you can with a preowned domain. You will likely have to pay a few hundred dollars to a few thousand. But you can save a shitload of time just buying a site that already has authority in a niche. MANY people have no fucking clue about authority, the power of search, etc.
If you have 500-2k to play around with, you may be able to fast track your way to money by picking up a couple websites. I'd say it's best to send off an email or call directly rather than look through places like FLIPPA as those places are saturated with marketers and rip-off prices.
This can work well if you are already in a niche and have an idea about the CPC the expected CTR, etc. Getting an established site will make you instant money. The trick is to find sites that are vastly underdeveloped that you can buy cheap.

Are backlilnks from an authority site links-page powerful? I have a domain in my sights which is a niche site that I am most likely not going to be using for that particular niche, but it has backlinks from authority sites, that are on a link page.

Any link from authority sites are good. Keep in mind that the more links per page, the less google juice is given out. For example, if you have 1 single page with 1 outgoing link, that link will pass the maximum amount of juice. If you have a page with 3 links, each link will split the juice given out. If it's a link page with dozens or hundreds of links, you won't be getting very much juice per link, though since the blog has authority, it will have more juice than say a new blog.
Bottom line, it helps but don't expect "that" much boost from link pages, authority blog or not. But again, still worth getting.

How do you find pre owned domains? That freshdrop site isn't working
